Appearance traits that supposedly help your career

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

Just as we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, neither should we judge a person by his or her appearance. However, it turns out that there are a few important things about our clothing, and even our nose or chin, that make us perceived as more professional and trustworthy. So we look at what appearance traits positively affect careers.

What counts at work – looks or experience?

In some industries, a certain appearance is required – this is mainly about the wide world of beauty, as well as fashion, mainly modeling. Here, to no one’s surprise, you have to fit into specific standards. However, it turns out that in many other workplaces, too, selected external characteristics can influence careers.

So, do attractive people have it easier at work? Are experience, competence and the right character traits not enough? Unfortunately, in practice, this really is the case – appearance largely determines whether one has a chance for success or rather not.

Complexion, nose and chin, that is, what appearance traits are rewarded?

Appearance is important, and more specifically, three things are mainly taken into account: complexion, nose and chin. The complexion should be smooth and wrinkle-free, the nose should be proportional to the rest of the face, and the chin and jaw should be clearly defined. All this makes us appear trustworthy and competent.

In addition, nails and hairstyle are still important. Under no circumstances should we go to work with neglected nails, dirty or bitten. If we don’t like to paint our nails, let’s not do it. However, let’s make sure that they are evenly trimmed, filed and treated with conditioner, for example. The same is true of hair – colorful, avant-garde and stale hair is sometimes unwelcome.

How does our clothing affect our careers?

In addition to the above-mentioned characteristics, our clothing also has a big impact. It is not insignificant that we already come to a job interview dressed in a certain way – neatly, elegantly, classically and in subdued colors. We then show that we respect the recruiter and the company in question. We only get one chance to make a good impression, and we should remember this and make sure to make the most of it. This is not the time or place for extravagance or bold cuts.

The styles we compose once we get the job are also constantly evaluated by our boss and other colleagues. Subconsciously, they want the aesthetic appearance of every person in the office to influence the favorable image of the company at the same time. Particularly in business industries, it is good to wear clothes and accessories from a specific price range – then we spread an atmosphere of prestige around the client.

Finally, a few more words about the silhouette itself. Walk straight, with a dynamic step and a raised chin. Then we not only show commitment to our duties, but also confidence.
