Dental hygiene is a procedure aimed at preventive cleaning of teeth. What treatments are performed as part of it, what benefits does it bring, and when is it worth choosing it? You will find out everything in our article.

What is hygienization?

It is teeth cleaning, which is performed by a dentist. It may be a supplement to daily oral hygiene. As part of hygienization, tartar, surface deposits and bacterial plaque are removed.

The dental hygienization procedure consists of four stages:

– scaling

– sandblasting

– polishing

– fluoridation.

The treatment time depends on the amount of tartar on the teeth. Most often, however, it is 40-60 minutes.

Scaling

The first stage of dental hygienization consists of removing tartar. This contributes to the development of caries, periodontosis or bleeding gums, so it is important to remove it.

Sandblasting

This involves the removal of plaque and discoloration. The dentist using water, air and cleaning particles cleans the teeth. This is an important step, especially when it comes to eliminating plaque that has formed as a result of drinking too much coffee or tea or smoking cigarettes.

Polishing

At this stage, possible plaque residues are removed. The enamel surface is also smoothed.

Fluoridization

At the end of the hygienization procedure, a fluoride-containing agent is applied on teeth to protect them against the development of caries and hypersensitivity of tooth necks. However, this stage is not always performed. Fluoridization is not recommended for everyone.

Indications for hygienization

Everyone may undergo prophylactic dental hygienization. However, before performing it, it is worth discussing the matter with the dentist. He/she may decide that there is an increased need to clean the oral cavity. This may result from a predisposition to the development of caries.

Other indications for hygienization include orthodontic treatment, deposits caused by smoking, drinking coffee or tea, and tartar.

Contraindications

Patients with oral and dental diseases and general health problems sometimes cannot undergo hygienization. It is most often not performed in patients with osteoporosis, deep gingival pockets, herpes in the mouth or pain in the mucous membranes. Each case should be discussed with a dentist.

Recommendations after the treatment

After the hygienization, the dentist will certainly provide information on proper dental and oral hygiene. If we want the visual effect after stain removal to last, we should give up smoking and excessive coffee drinking, as they have a great influence on the appearance of teeth.

Where to perform hygienization?

Most dental surgeries offer this procedure. However, you should ask your dentist about it beforehand. He/she will answer all relevant questions. If you are wondering where the right dentist will take you , Warsaw Ochota is the place where you will perform the hygienization procedure.

Is the procedure painful?

In most cases dental hygiene is painless. Scaling and sandblasting are sometimes associated with some discomfort, and after the procedure a slight irritation may appear. However, it disappears after a short time. In the case of calculus removal, pain may occur. However, this applies to people with hypersensitivity problems or receding gums. However, the dentist will inform you about all possible reactions of the body before the procedure.
