Daily meditation, single-tasking, routine, and familiar sounds are the secret of happiness, peace of mind, and the best way to experience the modern world. So says Jay Shetty, author of the book “Start thinking like a monk”. So find out how to achieve the desired happiness and get rid of anxiety and fears.

“Monks know how to resist temptation, refrain from criticism, deal with anxiety, quiet the ego, and live in a meaningful, purposeful way. That’s why we should learn from them – because they are the calmest, happiest, most thoughtful people in the world,” – so writes Briton Jay Shetty in his book, fascinated by the teachings of the Hindu monk who inspired him to join a monastery and write Start Thinking Like a Monk

He also currently produces podcasts about how meditation, routine, holy books, and daily repetitive sounds have changed his life.

Eighteen-year-old Jay began studying economics at Cass Business School in London. At the time, there was no indication that this young Brit would soon follow a very different career path. Everything changed in his first year, when he was persuaded by a friend to attend a lecture by a monk, Gaurang Das, who had come from India. His fascination with his teachings caused him to spend the next four years broken. On the one hand, he meditated and explored Dasa’s teachings, while on the other he enjoyed a student life full of pleasures and fun.

After graduation, however, he traded his suit for a habit and went to a monastery in India. He began meditating and studying holy books, from which he still draws knowledge and passes it on to his fans. After three years in the monastery, his master and spiritual guide Gauranga Dasa told him that his mission was to spread the knowledge he had acquired and share it with others. That’s how the idea of creating a YouTube channel, writing a book and promoting a lifestyle based on stillness, meditation and routine came about. Shetty argues that each of us would benefit if we started drawing on the monks’ way of thinking.
