Finding athletic shoes that fit all your needs can be a challenge, especially for beginner runners. Read how to choose the best running shoes for you.

First and foremost, running shoes should be comfortable and fit your foot to make your workout both safe for your health and effective. It’s a good idea to buy shoes that are half an inch too big, as your leg moves forward and swells during your workout. High-quality footwear is designed to protect against overheating and abrasions. In the summer, the model with breathable mesh will provide your feet with proper ventilation.

Technical features and characteristics over aesthetics

Running shoes should be tried on before buying, because sizes vary depending on the country of origin and brand. To make a good purchase, it is advisable to try them on with training socks. One important parameter to consider when buying is your current body weight. Many models of running shoes have a marked weight for which they are designed. It is a good idea to check this before you buy, as the right amount of cushioning is important to protect your knees and muscles during your workout

Shoes must not pinch, so you should also check how the upper behaves during movement. Experts recommend choosing a seamless upper and one that retains breathability. A wide range of professional sports shoes is offered on the Polish market ButoManiac.

Level of running

Beginner runners should choose shoes with good cushioning, which is responsible for absorbing shock. If you are just starting your running adventure, it is not worth investing in overpriced shoes at the very beginning. Pay attention to the shoe’s reinforcements, which hold and stabilize your foot well, and also check how you place your foot.

Training frequency

Good footwear should make running easier, minimize the risk of injury, and be tailored to the specifics of your workouts. When choosing shoes, consider whether you’re looking for a model for everyday training on a specific surface, or shoes for long-distance running in difficult terrain and athletic events such as marathons and triathlons.

Surface type

When choosing running shoes, you should also consider the type of terrain you intend to run on. Shoes for runners are divided into road shoes, designed for running on sidewalk, asphalt, and cobblestones, and trail shoes, for running on unpaved natural terrain. When producing shoes for running on paved terrains, emphasis is placed on cushioning and stabilization of the foot, which is why, for example, treads for asphalt are soft and without bumps. When it comes to forest areas, dirt paths and muddy terrain, a highly contoured and grippy sole is important.

When fitting running shoes, you should also consider your foot type. Shoes for runners are divided according to the way it is placed on the surface. In general, there are three types: pronation, where the foot turns inward; supination, where the outer part of the foot is overly loaded; and the neutral type, where you can talk about even rolling from heel to toe. Pronation becomes a problem when it is excessive because it can lead to injury. You can counteract this with proper running technique and also by choosing athletic shoes with extra stabilization.
